 What Are We Growing?

In general, cold-hardy spring crops are available during the first couple of weeks of our plant sale, while herbs and flowers trickle in.
Warmer-weather crops like tomatoes, peppers, cucurbits, and many flowers are available in the second half of our plant sale.
If you want to ensure getting the best variety, we encourage you to shop multiple weeks.
Please note that all varieties are subject to pest and germination issues that may affect availability.

The last danger of frost in our area is May 4th, but some farmers say to wait until Mother’s Day.
Be sure to keep your warmer-weather plants safe until then!

Quality

We’re growing 20,000+ seedlings in our greenhouses using organic practices and top-quality soil and seeds.

Each seedling is lovingly tended from the moment they’re planted until the moment you take them home.

We use Beautiful Land Products soil (West Branch, IA).

Our seeds are ethically-sourced from a variety of suppliers including Meadowlark Hearth Farm, Fedco Seeds, Prairie Moon Nursery, High Mowing Organic Seeds, Johnny’s Selected Seeds, and more.

Proceeds

Proceeds support year-round garden education programs and garden produce distribution.

Your purchase supports:
• Teaching year-round gardening+cooking+nutrition classes in several OPS elementary and middle schools.
• Building food gardens and planting mini-orchards in NE, KS, and SW IA.
• Offering gardening workshops for adults.
• Growing emergency food for distribution through pantries.

Cardboard Drive

Did you know that we cardboard for sheet mulching?
We put it down and place mulch on top to help suppress weeds!

We need your help collecting cardboard!

Here is how you know we can use your boxes:

  1. They are plain - no shiny coating.
    Printed words are okay.

  2. Medium-large broken-down
    boxes are preferred.

  3. Please remove any tape and labels.

If your boxes meet these requirements, bring them to on-site plant sale, or curbside days and become a part of our mission to cultivate food security through gardening!
